Scientific and Research Laboratory of Ecological Researches and Ecological Monitoring (SRL EREM) is well known in Ukraine and abroad by its scientific developments in the sphere of monitoring, simulation, controlling and management of natural and human made objects using latest informational technologies (data basis, geoinformation systems, web-technologies, XML etc.). Scientists of EREM conduct researches in the following spheres:
- Mathematical simulation of ecological processes;
- Simulation of processes of diluting and interfusion of sewage waters with river waters;
- Simulation of dissemination of contaminating substances in atmosphere with use of geoinformation technologies;
- Complex monitoring of state of natural and anthropogenic objects: water state monitoring, soil state monitoring, atmospheric air, electromagnetic pollution (influence of radio technical objects of mobile connection), registration of discharges, emissions, wastes, registering chemical storages, dumps,objects of natural and reserved funds;
- Integrated control over natural resources, creation of basin systems and regional systems of controlling over water resources using geoinformation technologies;
- Creation of state and regional computerized systems for monitoring the state of the environment;
- Monitoring and simulation of transport flows using GIS technologies;
- Analysis of the environment state influence on population morbidity;
- Automation of ecological evaluation of water surface quality in Ukrainian regions as for classes and categories;
- Search for ecological information;
- Development of ecological sites and ensuring access to ecological information for the society;
- Conducting the Contest on environment monitoring among pupils and students of Vinnytsia region on the basis of educational version of the developed by the SRL system of state monitoring of environment in Vinnytsia region "Ridna Pryroda".
Scientists of Scientific and Research Laboratory of EREM developed technology for building systems of complex controlling and management over the state of environment, based on strict determination of spatial relationships between the target object under control and logical connections between all their data, allowing to determine both, reasons and consequences of environment change.
The main principles of the activities are: complex monitoring of pollution source and changes of environmental state; all the data in the system are connected to the other they may relay to; all the objects are mapped using one approach. There had been developed a complex of authors' models and algorithms, which allow building such systems following the data of ecological institutions of Ukraine. Systems, created on the basis of this technology, integrate all the available ecological information on the environmental objects and anthropogenic influence upon them, ensure constant information updating from the state systems of ecological monitoring, allow to reveal tendencies and reasons for environmental changes, anthropogenic loading upon the environment and methods for its decrease, violation of ecological safety requirements, make optimal decisions as for integrated control over environmental state.
Within 2003-2007 the developed theoretical base allowed to create and introduce into the subdivisions of State Water Economy and Ministry of Environment of Ukraine the complex of systems for controlling over water resources in basins of big and average rivers of Ukraine: Dniester, Southern Boog, Siversky Donets, Pripyat, Tysza, Kalmius. Systems for transborder rivers (Dnister, Siversky Donets, Pripyat, Tysza) had been developed within the frameworks of international projects of ecological program of OUN.
In 2006 there had been created the unique automated system of State Ecological Inspection and special subdivisions of Ministry of Environment of Ukraine, with the results on measuring of state of environment pollution, discharges, emissions, wastes, their storage, processing and analysis, which is introduced in all the oblasts, Autonomous Republic of Crimea and big cities of Ukrain.
